BASIC Bank PLC., A 100% State-owned commercial Bank, held a business review meeting with branch managers of its Dhaka city areas on Monday (September 7, 2026), with a focus on strengthening loan recovery, increasing deposits and improving overall business performance. The meeting was held at the conference room of the bank's head office in Motijheel, where the bank's current business situation, recovery of defaulted loans, deposit mobilisation, revenue growth, customer service and measures to turn loss-making branches into profitable ones were discussed in details.
Helal Ahmed Chowdhury, Chairman of the Board of Directors of BASIC Bank, attended the meeting as the chief guest, while Abu Md. Mofazzal, Managing Director (acting), chaired the meeting. Among others, Subhash Chandra Das, FCA, FCMA, Deputy Managing Director, Md. Ismail, Md. Momenul Hoque, Md. Nashir Uddin, Sumit Ranjan Nath, Md. Hasan Imam, Md. Ghulam Syeed Khan, and Md. Saidur Rahman Sohel, General Managers along with Branch In-charges of Dhaka City, and Divisional In-charges of the Bank were also present at the conference.
In his address, Chairman Helal Ahmed Chowdhury instructed the concerned officials to intensify efforts to recover defaulted loans in line with Bangladesh Bank's circulars and directives, and to expedite legal proceedings related to loan recovery. He also stressed the need to properly internalise and comply with all instructions issued by the regulatory authorities and maintain the highest standards of ethics in the workplace.
At the same time, he called for concerted efforts to provide improved, convenient and customer-friendly banking services and increase the bank's income by transforming loss-making branches into profitable ones.
The chairman called upon officials at all levels to bring about a positive change in their mindset and play an effective role in improving the bank's business performance with courage, confidence and a strong sense of responsibility. "Every official must contribute from their respective positions to improve the bank's business performance. This requires courage, confidence and a strong sense of responsibility," he said.
In his address, Managing Director (acting) Abu Md Mofazzal discussed various strategies and measures to help the bank overcome its current challenges. He also shared a number of effective approaches and practical examples for recovering defaulted loans. "There is no alternative to working together with utmost commitment to help BASIC Bank overcome its current situation. Every officer and employee must be more sincere, proactive and committed to discharging their responsibilities in the best interest of the bank," he said.
Deputy Managing Director Subhash Chandra Das, FCA, FCMA, said all officials needed to step up their efforts to bring about a turnaround in the bank's business. "Our backs are against the wall, and there is no room for retreat. We must move forward through collective efforts, accountability and effective initiatives," he said. He also emphasised extending small and viable new loans, mobilising low-cost deposits and increasing non-funded income to strengthen the bank's business and financial performance.
The meeting also discussed other strategic aspects of the bank's operations, with necessary guidance and directives issued to the officials concerned.
